You can if you want to, but all basic life jackets and paddles are provided free of charge at all races and practices. That said, paddlers on this team are typically encouraged to invest in their own gear over time.
Bring a change of clothes and avoid wearing cotton (which stays wet). Sport sandals or paddling shoes are recommended, as well as a few bottles of water. You’ll also need a quarter (25¢) for the lockers at Sunnyside. For early-season practices in April and May, paddling gloves are highly recommended to keep your hands warm.
Dragon boating is a team sport that depends on consistent commitment from the entire crew to succeed. If you already know you’ll miss many practices or races, you may want to consider joining a team within Paddlers Anonymous that has a more flexible attendance expectation.

We strive to be transparent about all fees. However, there may be some additional costs throughout the season, such as:
- Parking fees at practice or race locations
- Food committee costs (each paddler is assigned one regatta per season)
- Buying your own paddle or life jacket (optional - all basic equipments are provided)
- Travel and accommodation for optional out-of-town regattas (e.g., Ottawa, Montreal, Vancouver)
All extra costs will be clearly communicated ahead of time.
The registration window will be open for approximately 3 weeks, typically closing in mid to late February. Please note that applying online does not guarantee a spot on any team. Spots are limited and will be offered after the signup period ends. If you're offered a spot, you’ll need to submit your registration fee within 5 days via EMT (instructions will be provided). Your membership is only confirmed once the fee is received.
