daCatch is looking for paddlers with at least 1 year of dragon boat experience (preferred) to make a roster of 23 paddlers for this season.
This team is great for those who wish to expand on their paddling experience, while looking to add a slight competitive edge. Keeping it fun, fresh, and recreational is what we do best, so be ready for social events, laughter, friendships, potluck regattas, and more! You can expect a memorable summer of a team-oriented sport with challenging practices on the water and regattas where you get to bring it altogether and shine!
daCatch will train at Afterburn Fitness and Sunnyside Park in preparation for 3 regattas this season: Pickering, Ottawa, and Guelph.
Please ensure your schedule works with our paddling schedule and regattas as outlined below (with Saturdays or Thursday practices), since paddling and training together as a whole is essential to our success. Dragon boat racing is a team based sport; we expect paddlers to have the commitment and dedication to come out to practices and regattas.
Paddlers are expected to arrive at practice changed and ready at the designated time. Attendance and punctuality are required and will affect your chances of being on the boat at races (especially since there are limited practices between regattas this season.) A warm-up session at Sunnyside Pavilion will take place prior to each water practice.
Those who are new to dragon boat are encouraged to join our beginner team, daWave. Individuals with at least one year of paddling experience (preferred) are invited to join this team, daCatch. Those with one or more years of experience and looking for advanced paddling are encouraged to join our competitive team, daBoat. Looking forward in seeing you this season, paddles up!
This team is organized by Karen Woo and Han Ho, and coached by Wheelock Pun along with co-coached by Jon Li.
