2015 Toronto Island Dragon Boat Regatta & Festival

Paddlers Anonymous took to the island to compete at the Toronto International Dragon Boat Race Festival. It was an intense two-day festival, but all the teams paddled hard and took home some hardware to prove it.

  • daCatch: Placed 2nd in Community E Division with a time of 57.06
  • daWave: Placed 4th in Community E Division with a time of 59.16

Final 500m Results:

  • daCatch: Placed 3rd in Premier Mixed L Division with a time of 2:21.81
  • daWave: Placed 2nd in Premier Mixed N Division with a time of 2:25.96

All three teams had an early wake up call on day one, but that didn’t stop them from paddling their hearts out in their qualifying heats. After their races, paddlers took part in PA Day, an annual club event that brings out a little friendly competition amongst teammates and teams. This year’s PA Day consisted of an exciting photo scavenger hunt of the island and an intense relay race that tested the teams’ fitness. Congrats to team 9 for showing everyone how it’s done. PA Day finished off with the infamous watermelon-eating contest. Congrats daBoat for coming up on top and for ending daCatch’s winning streak.

On day two, paddlers were up at the crack of dawn again, but were happy to see the sun instead of the previously forecasted thunderstorm. daWave won silver in the Premier Mixed N division and daCatch took home bronze place in the Premier Mixed L division. And not ones to let the fun end, all three teams celebrated the end of another great regatta by tossing their execs (and some of their fellow paddlers) into the lake.
